Review Lip Surgery: How My Thick Lips Turned into a Defined Cupid’s Bow in Just 5 Days

If you’re looking for a real review of a lip surgery story, let me share my experience with you.

My name is Bew, and this lip surgery was actually the first cosmetic procedure of my life. After I had my lips reshaped, people kept asking, “Why do your lips look so pretty all of a sudden? Did you do something to them?” That’s why I decided to write this review for anyone who’s thinking about lip surgery or struggling with the same insecurities I used to have.

Before the procedure, my lips were naturally big and very thick, both top and bottom. I was always teased about having “droopy lips,” and over time it really got to me. It became something I was very self-conscious about. As I got older, started working, and had to talk to more people, I found myself losing confidence. I didn’t dare to smile much, and when I didn’t smile, my face looked serious or even a bit harsh— which made me feel even worse.

Taking photos was the hardest part. I always wanted cute pictures like everyone else, but my lips looked too big and heavy in almost every shot. No matter how I posed, they never looked the way I wanted. That’s when I realised I needed to make a change—not to please other people, but so that I could finally feel confident in my own face.

Before the surgery, my lips were honestly very thick.

I’ve always loved wearing lipstick and buying new shades, but I could hardly wear any. Bold colours, especially bright red, made my lips look even bigger, and that’s when I realised this was a problem I really wanted to fix.

So I talked to my mom and told her, “I want to have pretty lips. Can I get lip reshaping surgery?” She let me make my own decision. A friend also recommended a clinic to me, so I started doing my homework—reading every review lip surgery post I could find, studying different cases of Cupid’s bow lip surgery, and scrolling through pages and websites every day. I was basically living in the world of lip surgery reviews.

I compared before-and-after photos from many clinics until I finally found a case I really liked. The “before” lips in that case were thick just like mine, and the “after” shape was exactly what I wanted. So I booked a consultation with the doctor. My goal was to understand the whole process: how lip reshaping is done step by step, and how I would need to take care of my lips after the surgery.

From that point on, I became very serious about going ahead with it. I told the doctor clearly what I wanted: slimmer lips with a defined cupid’s bow, and a soft curve that would make the shape of my lips stand out more.

Review Lip Surgery with the Lifting Smile Technique

For this review of lip surgery, I want to share my experience with the Lifting Smile technique.

The Lifting Smile lip surgery is a technique where the inner part of the lip tissue is trimmed and gently rolled inward to lift the corners of the mouth. The incision is placed about 5 millimetres away from the outer corner of the lips, so there’s no visible scar right at the mouth corner. This also helps avoid damaging the muscles that control speaking and lip movement, while carefully protecting the nerves and blood vessels in the area.

During my consultation, the doctor explained that the Lifting Smile technique would be used to reshape the corners of my lips by removing and rolling the tissue from the inside, so that the scars stay hidden inside the mouth. After hearing the details and seeing the examples, I decided to go ahead and booked my surgery date, paid the deposit, and planned time off to rest afterwards.

Before every surgery, the doctor evaluates the original shape of the lips, checks how much lip tissue there is, and designs the new lip shape to match the overall facial structure. After that assessment, I felt confident and decided, “Okay, I’m definitely doing it here.”

When my surgery day finally came, I was really nervous. I kept worrying whether the result would look like what I had imagined and whether it would hurt. During the procedure, the only painful moment was when the local anaesthetic was injected. Once it started working, I didn’t feel anything. The surgery itself took around one hour, and when I saw my lips right after, the stitches already looked very neat.

The doctor also taught me how to take care of myself after surgery: applying a cold compress or ice packs to reduce swelling, and gently cleaning the incision with saline twice a day, morning and evening.

Update After My Lip Surgery – Swelling, Results, and How I Feel Now

Right after the surgery, my lips were swollen for about the first three days, but honestly the swelling was much less than I expected. The stitches looked really neat and clean, and the wound healed nicely. When I saw my lips in the mirror, I remember thinking, “Wow, this actually turned out better than I imagined.”

When I went out and met my friends, the same people who used to tease me about my thick lips suddenly started saying how pretty my lips looked. At that moment I couldn’t help but think, I really should have done this a long time ago.

The results after the lip surgery made such a big difference. My lips look more defined and balanced, and I feel so much more confident when I smile and talk to people. It feels like I finally fixed the real cause of the problem, not just tried to hide it with makeup. That’s why I wanted to share my story—especially for anyone with naturally thick or large lips like mine. Please don’t feel hopeless or discouraged; as long as there are skilled doctors, there are always options to help you feel more beautiful.

If you’re still on the fence about getting lip surgery—worried about the pain or scared of the process—my honest advice is: just go for it. It’s nowhere near as scary or as painful as you might imagine. And if you’ve been reading this review of lip surgery and feel like, “That’s me, my lips are big and thick too,” you’re welcome to come and see Dr. PingPing at WE Clinic near Ari. I recommend booking a consultation first to have your lips evaluated. She’s a female doctor, very gentle, kind, and has a really light hand, which made the whole experience so much more comfortable for me.

Preparing for Lip Reshaping Surgery

From my own review of lip surgery experience, the preparation before lip surgery was actually very simple.
All I had to do was:

  • Stop drinking alcohol
  • Stop taking vitamins and dietary supplements

for at least 1 week before the surgery.

On the day of the procedure, I was allowed to eat and drink as usual, so there was no need to fast or starve myself. I just came in with a light meal and felt completely fine.

Step-by-Step Lip Surgery Procedure

Here’s how the process went on the day of my Cupid’s bow lip surgery:

  1. Consultation & Design I talked with the doctor about the shape I wanted and the details of the surgery. The doctor then marked the areas on my lips that would be adjusted.
  2. Local Anaesthesia The doctor injected a local anaesthetic around my lips. We waited about 5–10 minutes for it to take full effect before starting the surgery.
  3. Lip Reshaping & Laser Once the area was numb, the doctor performed the lip reshaping and used a special laser to control bleeding. This specific technique helps minimise bruising and swelling.
  4. Stitching the Incision The incision was then carefully closed with fine stitches, making the wound look neat and clean.
  5. Wound Care Instructions Before I left, the doctor taught me exactly how to clean the wound and take care of my lips at home.
  6. Go Home & Rest After that, I was able to go straight home and start my recovery.

Aftercare Instructions Following Lip Surgery

These were the main aftercare guidelines I received after my lip surgery:

  • Clean the wound gently morning and evening as instructed.
  • Avoid getting the incision directly wet until the stitches are removed.
  • Take all prescribed medication exactly as directed by the doctor.
  • Avoid vitamins, supplements, alcohol, and smoking for 1 month after the surgery.
  • Avoid fermented food, very spicy or “high-risk” foods, and seafood for 1 month to reduce the chance of irritation or infection.

Lip Surgery Price

At the clinic I went to, every case includes:

  • Personalised lip design
  • One-on-one consultation with the doctor before surgery

Lip surgery price:

  • Upper lip reshaping only: 18,000 THB
  • Upper + lower lip reshaping: 25,000 THB
